GO DIGITAL AND SAVE TREES !!

Have you ever looked at a bulk of books and questioned yourself how many trees need to be cut to get those books done? I have. And it feels awful. A massive amount of trees need to be cut everyday just because we need to fulfill our daily needs like newspaper at the first thing in the morning, paper bags and a variety of other goods made from wood or paper. Our environment is being hurt also because large number of trees are being cut on a daily basis. Okay so we cannot stop the use of wood and paper products totally, but we can at least minimize them. We would be saving the environment by a small percentage if we are aware. One idea I'm going to discuss about is digitization.

This is the world of computer technology where huge amount of data can be stored in a small computer chip. And all of us are aware of this technology, I assume. We can stores hundreds of gigabytes of digital data on a hard drive. And if we do some maths, we can store ~51,200 eBooks on a 500GB hard drive (assuming an eBook =10MB). If we again do some maths, the same number of books, made of paper, would take up a space of 115.2 cubic meters (assuming one book = 30cm x 15cm x 5cm ), which would be a library. So basically, we're storing a library of books in our hard drive. And then again, if we have to calculate the total weight, assuming 1 book as 500 grams, 51,200 books would take ~256,000 kilograms of books. So basically, we can carry ~51,200 books of ~256,000 kilograms in a single hard drive. But why don't we?
Recently I found a Facebook status saying "Definition of human being:A creature that cuts trees, makes paper & writes "save trees" on the same paper...". Well thats totally right! And I find many people complaining about exams as "it takes x no of trees to make our exams papers, so yea let's not give exams!", well that's right, but partially. We've got to give exams, but in a digital system. There must be a digital examination system in schools and universities. A digital examination system alone can save massive destruction of trees for paper materials.
Newspapers, Magazines and such can also publish an online version everyday and readers can go read them via a computer or handheld devices. This would be a double benefit for both the readers and the magazine owners. The readers would have a very reduced price for they won't have to pay for the paper, and the loong process of printing, delivering and such. The owners could sell their print stuff online at a lower price and won't need to worry about the expensive printing process. This would be a win-win condition for everybody.
Trees are being cut every single day, every single hour and every single minute. And this devastating process cannot be stopped totally maybe, but the reduction of paper use can hugely help in the reduction of deforestation.
Think about it.
